Overview:
Our society has seen an unprecedented rise in Death Anxiety. Even prior to the global pandemic COVID-19, we were embarking upon the age where the baby boomer generation were experiencing a climb in the death rate. Add to that the impact that of the pandemic, even seasoned professional was left bewildered and caught off guard with people dying alone, in isolation, connected to machinery, and having to say good-bye via video.
Chaplains and spiritual care providers have a unique opportunity to come along side individuals and families during a time when they are most vulnerable, often detached, and seeking to be heard to help alleviate and minimize that anxiety.
This research is in part for completion of the doctoral of ministry degree and endeavors to bring awareness to the anxiety that we as chaplain and spiritual care providers possess and address how we reconcile with it. That way, when we are called to work with patients and families, we are able to identify the death anxiety, sit with it and navigate the challenges that comes with it.
Learning Objectives:
1. Be able to identify your own anxiety around the subject of dying and death
2. Understand the needs of those that are dying
3. To better navigate the emotions leading up to and after a death
Presenters:

Rev. Dr. Angela Brooks-Wright has more that 30 years of ministry experience with almost half of that dedicated to pastoral care and chaplaincy. She received her Doctor of Ministry in Leadership & Renewal with a focus on Clinical Pastoral Education. Her work on Death and Dying got its genesis through her time of presence with families as they struggled through the process of acceptance, anticipatory grief, and loss. Angela currently serves as the Manager of Pastoral Care for OhioHealth Mansfield/Shelby Hospitals. It is her hope to convert her dissertation work into a modular based learning for spiritual formation and clinical pastoral education.
How It Works
To participate, all that is needed is a computer with Internet access and speakers, as the presentation audio and visuals are broadcast through ZOOM. As a participant, you will be able to interact with the presenters, who will ask questions of the audience and answer questions posed by participants.
