Overview:
Originally presented by Transforming Chaplaincy at the 2025 APC Annual Conference, this popular event is now being offered online via Zoom as this year’s Fall Symposium.
Morning (Part 1): Using Emerging Evidence To Strengthen the Value Proposition for Spiritual Care
Objectives:
- To examine what the latest research about spiritual care interventions and outcomes means for chaplaincy practice and advocating for spiritual care.
- To engage chaplains and researchers to explore what the research means for spiritual care.
- To engage and network with leading Transforming Chaplaincy researchers and other chaplains committed to evidence-based spiritual care.
Description:
For a chaplain intervention to be claimed as best practice, the weight and specificity of the evidence needs to be examined. For chaplains to identify and implement practices associated with results within the literature, a critical examination of these data among colleagues needs to occur.
Please join Transforming Chaplaincy, chaplain researchers, and practicing chaplains for this examination. Together, with leading scholars in our field, we’ll explore current knowledge, emerging evidence and future directions. It will be a morning filled with expert presentations, panel conversations, and audience engagement to consider what evidence means for our practice.
Afternoon (Part 2): Innovations Transforming Spiritual Care
Objectives:
- To examine the latest research about spiritual care innovations with implications for chaplaincy practice.
- To engage chaplain clinically practicing chaplains and researchers to explore what this research means for spiritual care.
- To engage and network with leading Transforming Chaplaincy researchers and other chaplains committed to evidence-based spiritual care.
Description:
Chaplaincy practice depends on the creative and adaptive work of colleagues toward meeting the person-centered demands warranted by an ever-shifting health care environment. Innovation without evaluation, however, does not gain traction because “what goes unmeasured is not seen and what is not seen cannot be changed” (Sanders et al., 2022).
Join Transforming Chaplaincy, researchers, and practicing chaplains for a meaningful conversation concerning the innovations and outcomes of our spiritual care. It will be an afternoon filled with expert presentations, panel conversations, and audience engagement to consider what evidence means for our practice.
