Description:

Overview:
When patients, families, and communities are given resources and knowledge to cultivate spiritual practices and character virtues such as love, joy, peace, gratitude, and patience, these correlate with improved neurophysiological well-being and positive health outcomes. Destructive habits such as prejudice, ignorance, hatred, and addiction have profound neurological consequences. It is from within that prejudice is overcome so that we bring love to the world. According to the National Academy of Medicine, “Medical care is estimated to account for only 10-20 percent of the modifiable contributors to healthy outcomes for a population. The other 80-90 percent are sometimes broadly called the social determinants of health: health related behaviors, socioeconomic factors and environmental factors. "Better understanding and applying the neuroscience of health related behaviors of vices and virtues will help participants personally find liberation from the inside to help others also overcome bias, ignorance, and prejudice to grow in health and wholeness.
